O que é Astrologia Védica? Guia Completo para Iniciantes

Lição 1 Pilar

Vedic astrology, also known as Jyotish Shastra (the "Science of Light"), is one of the oldest and most comprehensive systems of astrology in the world. Originating in ancient India over 5,000 years ago, it was traditionally used by sages and scholars to understand the cosmic influences on human life.

What Makes Vedic Astrology Different?

The most fundamental difference between Vedic and Western astrology is the zodiac system:

  • Sidereal Zodiac (Vedic): Based on the actual observable positions of stars and constellations. This means your Vedic Sun sign may differ from your Western one by about 23 degrees (the current ayanamsa).
  • Tropical Zodiac (Western): Based on the seasons — the vernal equinox always marks 0° Aries, regardless of where the constellations actually are.

Key Components of a Vedic Birth Chart

A Vedic birth chart (called a Kundali or Janam Patri) contains several layers of information:

  1. Lagna (Ascendant): The zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at the exact time of birth. This is considered even more important than the Sun sign in Vedic astrology.
  2. Moon Sign (Rashi): The zodiac sign where the Moon was placed at birth. This is the primary sign used in Vedic astrology for predictions.
  3. Nakshatra: The lunar mansion (27 divisions of the zodiac) where the Moon is placed. Each nakshatra has unique characteristics and is ruled by a specific planet.
  4. Planetary Positions: The placement of 9 celestial bodies (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, Ketu) across 12 houses.
  5. Dasha System: A unique predictive timing system that maps planetary periods across your entire life. The Vimshottari Dasha system spans 120 years and is the most widely used.

The 12 Houses (Bhavas)

Each house in the birth chart governs specific areas of life:
